20 Training Tips

1. Be consistent with your training of your dog. No matter how
comfortable you are sitting on your couch and watching a
great movie, you have to make sure that he/she gets the
same response when he does something good or bad.

2. Take your puppy out after a meal, play time in the house or a
nap.

3. Give your dog positive reinforcement.

4. Make sure your voice is firm when you give “No” command.

5. Do not strike your dog, this would lead him towards
aggression or passiveness, and can develop tendency to duck
his head when somebody approaches him with his hand.

6. If you can afford, join a puppy training class. This way your
puppy will learn to listen and focus on you when other dogs
and people are around.

7. Begin to train your puppy one-on-one. As he gets better, try
to work with him in distractive environments.

8. We recommend to start teaching your commands with food since your dog will respond to it the best, but make sure to get away from giving food for treat, as your dog will get use to listen to the command just for a quick snack.

9. Never react with anger. Always keep your coo.

10. Be consistent and patient.

11. Try to take your puppy out, right before you go to bed at
night. This would help you get a good night sleep.

12. Keep your training sessions brief. Most dogs will get bored
and start losing their attention after 20 min.

13. Have your dog sit before you put his/her food in front of
him/her. This will prevent some anxiety accidents.

14. Get your dog use to taking a bath with treats and lots of
“sweat talking”. Taking a bath should be an enjoyable
experience for you and your dog.

15. Get your dog use to riding in the car. They might feel little
awkward and/or sick the first couple times but they will adjust
to it over time.

16. When playing with your dog, avoid games he doesn’t enjoy.
To decide the best type of games you and your dog can
enjoy, learn about his/her breed.

17. Get all family members to agree on your training methods.
Your dog will be confused if different people react differently
towards your dog in certain situations.

18. Get your dog use to children and your guests. Make sure your
dog sits and waits when a guest arrives.

19. Catch on the move and punish or reward instantly. Otherwise your dog will not understand what’s going on. Some people might say that, they do, but they usually sense the anger on your voice and think they have done something wrong, but not necessarily the incident you have in mind.

20. Again, be consistent and patient.
