Put a Stop on Your Dog's Destructive Chewing

We all went through that moment... After a long day of work, came home and saw our most favorite pair of shoes or remote
control, or an expensive pair glasses chewed by our dog. We know they mostly do this because of boredom but what do we need to do to prevent this?

Here is a short list of things we might think about:

1. Use a crate (up to 3-4 hours a day)

2. If you don't want to use a crate, block off a part of a room with a screen and make it dog-proof. Don't leave anything where your dog can reach and make sure to leave 2-3 toys for him to keep himself busy.

3. If there are any plants in hour house your dog likes to chew on, use taste deterrent. You can also use a taste deterrent on your furniture and/or other items your dog finds tasty.

4. When you are around, a water gun can become very handy to
stop your dog's destructive chewing. If you can catch your dog on the move, sneak from an angle he can't see you and use the water gun. He will be caught by an unpleasant surprise and jerk. (Don't let him see or play with the water gun) If you can keep doing this repetitively every time he tries to taste something he is not suppose to, his "chewing on things" habit will slowly disappear. He will come to realize that he should be tasting and/or chewing his toys and nothing else around the house.
